Join the West Side Trio on a journey. With their electronic string instruments, special effects and voices they create cinematic music about dreams and today’s reality. Create your own world with woodwind, voice, strings, cables, amplifiers and effect pedals. They compose and improvise everything from soft sweet melodies to groovy distorted electronic noise.
Vera van der Bie (violin, fx, vocals), Rani Kumar (viola, fx, vocals) and Annie Tangberg (cello, fx, vocals) meet in the Metropole Orchestra. Classically trained, experienced in jazz and pop music and always looking for new sounds, they found each other in the West Side Trio.
Over the years, the trio has played various projects of their own and also collaborated with various artists. For the silent film Tabu they wrote a new soundtrack that was performed together with the strings of the Metropole Orchestra in the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ. They also wrote new music for several other silent films in collaboration with the EYE.
The trio played at festivals such as the Cello Biennale, Viola Viola festival, Fringe Festival, Klik! Animation Festival, Peel Slowly and See, Love Supreme Festival, Düsseldorf Jazz Rally and Naked Song Festival.
They toured and collaborated with Bill Laurance Project (Snarky Puppy), Jonathan Jeremiah, Yentl en de Boer, Sonja van Hamel/The Leonids, Fay Lovsky, Margriet Sjoerdsma, Tini Thomsen, The Big Hustle and Ken Stringfellow (The Posies), among others.
