Dutch pianist Xavier Boot, also known as XA4, is set to release his new vinyl EP, “Glass Gateway,” on December 6th, 2023, with a release concert at A’DAM&Co. This EP marks Xavier’s debut on the record label of renowned composer Philip Glass, Orange Mountain Music. “Glass Gateway” features two Glass compositions, Etude No. 2 and Etude No. 12, arranged by Xavier for piano and electronics, along with two original compositions, “Floating Fields” and “Pro Gre Tra Gre.” The EP has already garnered over 250,000 streams on streaming platforms. Xavier Boot’s journey as a pianist began at a young age, and he displayed remarkable talent, eventually studying classical piano at various prestigious institutions. He holds a master’s degree in live electronic music, making him a unique classical piano student. Xavier has received awards for his piano skills, composed music for award-winning films, and is influenced by Gamelan music and his Indonesian background, much like how Philip Glass is inspired by Indian ragas. Xavier and Philip Glass have become friends, and Xavier has even shared the stage with Glass himself. As Philip Glass expressed, “Xavier is really a wonderful pianist, and I am really very thrilled by how he tackles my etudes with that elegant electronic touch. Well, it’s 2023, and it’s about time, too.”
Xavier/XA4 has previously released work on Excelsior, one of the largest pop labels in the Netherlands, and in 2022, he signed with the New York-based label Orange Mountain Music, founded by the famous American composer Philip Glass. This label focuses on Glass’s music but also represents globally renowned artists like Allen Ginsberg, Leonard Cohen, and Simone Dinnerstein. Currently, Xavier is working on a full album scheduled for release in 2024. The release will contain performances by Xavier/XA4 and friends, as well as DJ Miss Terpentine. Xavier has graced the stages of numerous prestigious concert venues in the Netherlands and internationally, collaborating with artists from various disciplines. He has also composed music for brands such as Frédéric Malle, Diptyque, and Hėrmes. Xavier/XA4’s work has received acclaim from critics, with one praising the electronic arrangements of Glass’ Etudes and the Glassian language of his original compositions. Another review highlights Xavier’s powerful piano performance, especially in interpreting challenging pieces like Chopin’s, describing him as a master pianist who lets his love for music shine through in his playing.
Salmonella is a duo consisting of a singer-songwriter from the Netherlands (Julia Rosenhart) and an actress/singer from Belgium (Eva Mareen). They met at the Antwerp Conservatory where they started a fruitful collaboration for their graduation project. They strive for a mixture of their different disciplines.
